Oliver! New Haven Theatre reviews
Took a long time to warm up!
The Fox theater's Oliver show last night was just okay. They were quite good in the early 90's when they broke in and played often in San Diego. Despite not receiving enough credit back then, now they seem less enthusiastic. The first 45 minutes of the show were weak, with Weiland being boring. The mix was off, with the drums too loud and the bass guitar too low. However, somewhere around Crackerman, the band stepped it up and ended the show strongly. Good versions of Dead and Bloated and Sex Type Thing got the crowd rocking. Unfortunately, Oliver's better days are behind them. Weiland should have stayed in Velvet Revolver, who actually perform Stone Temple Pilot songs better. It was nice to see, but that will be my last time attending.
